Glass Mounting Rosettes
Mounting holes in glass need cushion material to keep from cracking.  That usually means (traditionally) felt or leather washers and a large decorative metallic flat washer to distribute the pressure.
The only stock one I could find (in metal) that was 3/4" diameter or less just looks too fancy.  Anything larger just would not fit the scale of my project.
So time to think about what a person in 1925 could do in his home shop.  They would have known that simple brass & copper rosettes were used on furniture drawer pulls since at least the 1700's.  And the tool to make them is simple.    So I ought to be able to do the same...
Cut blanks from soft aluminum....  The 0.028" thick sheet from the junk box is easily snipped just with a pair of scissors.
A scrap of round stock has a 8x32 hole in the center so 10 or so of the plates can be stacked up for turning.
The pressure to dimple the soft aluminum is not great, so it is a snap to do it just using a rod chucked in the drill press..
So I've got a nice batch of rosettes....  The pix also illustrates my motto... Don't throw ANYTHING away!  You never know when you will need it....  In this case, the aluminum came from the control panel of my 30+ year old Kenmore washer that gave up the ghost a few months back.
