The base is made of poplar with walnut veneer. The edge molding is old growth American Walnut. I took great care to miter the joints to be near perfect.
The veneer was open grain enough that I had to apply filler. The traditional material for cross-grain wiping of excess filler is burlap but I learned that woven nylon mesh works even better.

I can highly recommend the filler from Dalys at this link; It is the GOOD OLD STUFF works great and LOOKS RIGHT!
